Big Sky Stargazing

Aoraki National Park and the world’s largest dark sky reserve is home to two stargazing experiences; Big Sky Stargazing and a planetarium show at the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre.

Outdoor experience
Explore the wonders of the night sky as our resident astronomy guides share their knowledge on a tour of the night sky through high powered telescopes. Guests are shuttled to a base which is set up to enjoy the night sky. Witness the darkness with the stars framed by the beautiful mountains of the Southern Alps

Indoor Experience
Explore the wonders of the night sky in comfort in the indoor 360-degree digital dome planetarium. Science plus entertainment as your astronomy guide presents an awe-inspiring visual journey through the cosmos.
